Avoid False Alarms: Effective Optical Flame Detection

September 27, 2010

To avoid alarms from process flare energy, application of the detection technology must be understood before the detector is installed: sensitivity settings and field of view are important considerations.

Proper sensitivity will provide reliable detection while not gathering enough extraneous light energy to alarm the detector. In addition to determining the correct sensitivity setting for a given application, one must limit the amount of energy that reaches the optical flame detector from known friendly sources, such as process flares.
